The war against Helen Chan's (OT7) movie, "Let's fall in love", started in March. It's wrong that the propaganda movie disguised itself as a documentary, spread false hope, and promoted Helen's FSM group, an Scientology organization that misrepresents itself, often being thought of as a dating club, offering solutions in life. For each occurrence of the movie on the web, comments about the truth were left, if it could be left.
Against all odds, failing to get 500 small investors, Warner Brothers stepped in to release the movie nationally. Soon, similarly negative opinions dominated all polls and opinions about the movie in a huge way. Not only that the movie received rare positive ratings, but all other movies at the same week, the week before, the week after, and similar Taiwan movies, all received extremely positive ratings. In return for censoring negative opinions, the truth of the movie was exposed on the front page of Yahoo Movies at will. It doesn't matter if protesters were robots, hired cheap soldiers, volunteer army, pissed off victims, or just pissed off by the movie and Scientology. Few was sure but all was good for the opposition.
The movie had great trouble in the opening day at the end of August, and it's fate was sealed in the first weekend. Often the cinema screens became one's private - no other audiences. Despite an official rescue mission, with the director attending showings, in days the national release turned into a single screen release, where it had always been.
Chinese Wikipedia wasn't that useful because this anti-Scientology blog can be easily found via Google, but the war went on. The only thing going for Scientologists is that some editors cannot accept badly written Chinese articles after Google translation and corrective editing, even though the contents were very important, a matter of life and death. And also that editors do not reject unreliable sources, those from the Church of Scientology websites that Scientologists can only quote, because they are not suppose to read other things on the Internet! For each successful addition to the Scientology pages, it triggered an updated with the current great news from Germany and France, and there have been plenty of great news all over the world.
Scientologists, entering schools at will in 2008 via anti-drug talks, were being kicked out of schools altogether, in some cases with help from the mayor. Attempts at human right talks to students were rejected. Teacher training courses and parent talks were also not successful. Our faded starlet Rachel Chang still insisted to go into primary schools to talk human rights and promote Hubbard's name, all because she was promised discounts off future OT courses. She was that dumb and CoS cannot get rid of her without further negative PR! A few teachers, ignorant or otherwise Scientologists, taught from the Human right and Way to happiness DVD's. The problem of schools are that they are not that well connected, in the mental sense, to the web in remote counties. And that not all school principles and parent associations realize that they have the obligation to be reached via email, even though mostly could be spams from students.
While failing in other parts of the world, front groups were setup with no direct ties to the Church. A guy founded the East Taiwan family services (台灣安心家庭關懷協會), who also controls the East Taiwan Story House. ETFS was partially county funded. It was exposed to be carrying out Scientology activities on the side, with lectures on Scientology believes by Scientologists. "Front Group" was originally translated as something like a "scam organization". The founder lost his cool and declared on his blog that their organization was legitimate. On disaster relieve, volunteers arriving at the organization are taught by Scientologists on various assist techniques, to be applied later to "help" victims.
The Purification foundation, an Buddhist charity responsible for importing Narconon, has a curious relationship with Scientology. The foundation obtained public funding for anti-drug activities, but some lectures were presented by Narconon staff. Most activities of the foundation seems to have no relation to Scientology, but at least one staff praised LRH.
Some clueless high school students, or librarians, or teachers in an Hong Kong high school put Narconon on their website. Once exposed, like any other school in the world, they took it down immediately. The Hong Kong center was trying to reborn but haven't heard from it again. There is an Applied Scholastics center next to Hong Kong, inside China (ROC). There is one Mary who teaches English and also offer auditing via phone. APS is perhaps the first Scientology outpost in Taiwan. Now it is very quiet, and it resorted to using children waving signs outside of the school to recruit, and used the famous freeloading technique to get staff and income - paying big money for training, which will be refunded if staying on as staff.
It became clear that the library campaign is probably a success in Taiwan, while failed miserably in the world. Perhaps the Taiwan campaign was already an ongoing one for years. Many public schools, including primary/elementary, have Dianetics (in Chinese) in their libraries. It's a big conspiracy that Chinese Dianetics was classified as mental therapy by the central library, while the original Dianetics received the same classification as in the rest of the world, as a new religion.
8/8 came the Morakot disaster. The silliness and ineffectiveness of the Volunteer Minister was exposed right in front of the locals. The Taiwan press release of VM came one day later than the opposition exposing the assist scams. Assists were taken out of the releases, with the way to happiness leaflet in it's place. One Scilon reporter, 許謹麗, responsible for a Scientology Channel in an online newspaper, wrote her last press release on VM and was never heard of again.
It was a big opportunity to warn against the VMs in the number one disaster relief website, but the webmaster censored the discrete warning messages. Obviously she didn't know that the anonymous movement was started because of censorship. She even resorted to CAPTCHA before realizing that it was too silly for a disaster relief website, and gave up altogether. Another website kept the CAPTCHA and the silliness though. The message was spread far and wide, so much so that the top mission holder couldn't keep his cool and named names (handles) in his response, acknowledging that the opposition did well.
The webmaster resorted to human flesh search to find out who posted the anti-scientology messages. Being anonymous, it just couldn't be found out. Human flesh search became a joke for the wrong person, probably helping the Iranians via TOR, was blamed. After Morakot was gone, the webmaster was publicly humiliated at his Plurk, a Twitter like account. He was forced to quit for the day, being overwhelmed by responses. Plurk even helped by banning anti-censorship proxies. But being field tested thoroughly by the Chinese (PRC), the ban was only effective for short periods. Other times, Plurk, banned by the PRC itself, banned it's Chinese users from reaching it via anti-censorship proxies!
It was discovered that after the earthquake in China a couple of years ago, the Taiwanese Red Cross coordinated some medium to long term programs. It seems that the local govt, having no money, let the quack's in to have something to show for it's people without the need for any budget. One of the quacks is Scientology.
In the year end local elections, two politicians who expressed concern on Scientology were elected, while one who promoted TWTH didn't have enough votes to keep her deposit!
The public should be more aware that Scientology has it's claws everywhere, and not at all harmless to people who do not believe any of it. The head of education of a small county 南投縣教育處劉仲成處長 quoted LRH in his "communications" lecture. Ng Ying Chen 吳英辰, one of the heir to a well known family, and the head of a family bank sold, an OT and mission holder, is elusive but still spread lies to public Scientologists. It is probably due to his legacy that a credit card promotion has Dianetics on it's to buy list. A high ranking education official 劉瓊淑 was demoted to administering the national opera.
A private sector educator, 王君卉, who does not license any LRH technology, promotes Scientology via applying assists to children and now TWTH. After receiving complains, schools warned her in advance not to involve religion in free parental courses she offered to schools. Venues to hold her courses were reduced as bookshops and private tutoring schools do not want to involve. A Scilon was forced out of an apprenticeship program for high school drop outs, possibly after continuous exposure of Scientology activities, including letters to the mayor.
The only and small Criminon outfit is in the city 花蓮. Written on the prison website, the duty of officials include using scientific methods to evaluate alternatives for rehab, including Criminon. How contradicting! Scilons give it away for free, hoping for national implementation one day. A member of the legislative council 立法委員趙麗雲 pushed Criminon back in 2007. With any luck the public would have been paying CoS big money for nothing, even harming it's prisoners.
In another prison, anything goes, probably as long as it's free. Scientology was given the task of a reading club. Drug rehab was given to Falun Gong, a registered charity but not as a religion in Taiwan. So Scientology's ally Falun Gong may become it's major competitor. If true, Scientology doesn't stand a chance due to the numbers.
Herbalife products were discovered to be containing lead up to 12 times the legal limit. An active Scientologists working on Herbalife's major competitor rejoiced, only to find out that Herbalife was a major WISE member.
Last year CCHR's Human Rights campaign was in full force, playing on the public's fear of depression screening in schools, accusing a well known charity in collaboration with Pfizer to promote drugs. This year there was only a small YFHR carnival in Central Taiwan. The organizers were busy responding to negative press releases, before the carnival was held. They did succeed to take the picture of the vice mayor in front of a big LRH quote. He attended the same event last year. A mysterious guest didn't materialize.
The year end foot bullet occurred at the city of 高雄, a Human Rights City. The human rights learning center「人權學堂」was opened in Nov. Some fanatic Scilon slipped in LRH amongst the human rights greats, including MLK and Lincoln. The "mistake" was corrected as soon as it was discovered. Now LRH was being kicked out of 高雄, the number one Scilon city in Taiwan.
I shouldn't have written all these, with no time for it to be readable. Can't wait for a brand new year for a new offensive.

Church of Scientology Senator XENOPHON (South Australia) (8.09 pm)—I rise to speak tonight on an issue of utmost seriousness that I believe deserves a great deal of scrutiny by law enforcement agencies and by this parliament. In the past few weeks, I have been contacted by former members of the Church of Scientology after I questioned the tax exemption status the organisation has under our tax laws during an interview on the Seven Network’s Today Tonight. I want to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the work of reporter Bryan Seymour, who, under the leadership of Craig McPherson, Executive Producer of Today Tonight, has prepared more than two dozen stories on this organisation. I also commend the network for its willingness to dedicate considerable resources in the courts to ensure these stories have rightly been put to air. I was also concerned by a recent story in the Australian about the coronial inquest into the death of Edward McBride. Coroner John Lock had requested personal records of Mr McBride held by the Church of Scientology as part of the inquest but these documents were not forthcoming. Instead, they were shifted by the organisation from Brisbane to Sydney and then on to the United States. Since I made those initial comments about taxation on Today Tonight, a number of former followers of Scientology have written to me. These people rightly see themselves as victims of Scientology and they have provided long and detailed letters to me about the workings of this organisation. I seek leave to have copies of these letters tabled, some of which have had the names of some Scientology followers deleted with the permission of the authors.
Senator XENOPHON—Having read the state ments and subsequently met with the people who provided them, as well as having read a significant amount of research conducted by my office, I am deeply concerned about this organisation and the devastating impact it can have on its followers. In my view, this is two-faced organisation. There is the public face of the organisation founded in 1953 by the late science fiction writer L Ron Hubbard, which claims to offer guidance and support to its followers, and there is the private face of the organisation, which abuses its followers, viciously targets its critics and seems largely driven by paranoia.
In France, the organisation was recently convicted of fraud and it is also facing charges in Belgium. Meanwhile, in the USA a number of former high-ranking Scientology executives have broken their silence about the organisation, talking to the St Petersburg Times in Florida where its international headquarters are located. The executives say they witnessed the head of the organisation, David Miscavige, assault staff members dozens of times and they say he also urged others to commit assault. The executives also claim the organisation has used blackmail and threats against former members and perceived critics of the organisation, and that the organisation has knowingly repeatedly obstructed justice. Claims have also been made that information provided to the organisation by members during what are known as auditing sessions, which are a crude hybrid of confession and counselling and for which the organisation claims so-called priest penitent privilege, was then used to blackmail and manipulate members.
What we are seeing is a worldwide pattern of abuse and criminality. On the body of evidence this is not happening by accident; it is happening by design. Scientology is not a religious organisation. It is a criminal organisation that hides behind its so-called religious beliefs. What you believe does not mean you are not accountable for how you behave. The letters received by me which were written by former followers in Australia contain extensive allegations of crimes and abuses that are truly shocking—crimes against them and crimes they say they were coerced into committing. There are allegations of false imprisonment, coerced abortions, embezzlement of church funds, physical violence, intimidation, blackmail and the wide-spread and deliberate abuse of information obtained by the organisation. It is alleged that information about suspicious deaths and child abuse has been destroyed, and one follower has admitted he was coerced by the organisation into perjuring himself during investigations into the deaths of his two daughters.
These victims of Scientology claim it is an abusive, manipulative, violent and criminal organisation, and that criminality is condoned at the highest levels. Aaron Saxton is one of the victims of Scientology who wrote to me. He was born into the organisation and rose to a position of influence in Sydney and the United States. In his statement, he says that when he was a child his mother was coerced into signing over guardianship of him to a Scientology official so he could be moved to Australia. In or around January 1990, he was told by the organisation not to report the attempted rape of him by a man. He says this was due to the organisation’s public relations policy. Aaron was still a child when, he says, he was asked to cover up the defrauding of credit cards and cash by a Scientology employee. He says the organisation exercised frightening levels of control over followers. At least 10 times was forced to endure a diet of beans and rice for periods of up to two weeks as punishment. And because of Scientology’s bans on medications and seeking medical attention, he says, he was forced at times to extract his own teeth without the aid of pain-killers.
At age 16, Aaron says, he was made a security guard for the church. In this role, he says, he issued so-called non-communication orders on no less than half a dozen families, including his own. These orders forced members of the organisation to cut off all contact with relatives and friends for fear of punishment. In his statement, Aaron says he was also forced to participate in the illegal confinement and torture of a follower who was kept under house arrest. Aaron says he accessed more than 150 files that contained personal information on followers, much of which was obtained during so-called auditing. This information is meant to be confidential. It is not. Aaron says this information was used to blackmail followers to keep them in the church as well as to discredit former followers if they left. This was a condoned violation of the so-called priest-penitent privilege. Aaron says he was also involved in deleting files of a member who had suicided.
Disturbingly, Aaron has also spoken out against the organisation’s policy on abortions. He says while under the control of Scientology he was involved in coercing female followers to have abortions. He says this was in line with a policy designed to keep followers loyal to the organisation and to allow them to keep working for the organisation. Aaron says women who fell pregnant were taken to offices and bullied to have an abortion. If they refused, they faced demotion and hard labour. Aaron says the hope in the organisation was that if these pregnant women were given these punishments they would give in and have an abortion or miscarry. Aaron says one staff member used a coat hanger and self-aborted her child for fear of punishment. He says she was released from the organisation and the files destroyed.
In 1991 Aaron says he was sent to Scientology headquarters in Florida, where he was involved in the removal of funds from Scientology bank accounts to pay for private services for executives in the organisation. He also says he was made to falsify bank records and ordered more than 30 people to be sent to Scientology’s work camps, where they were forced to undertake hard labour. He also says he used personal and financial information of followers to track them down if they tried to leave. Aaron has said the organisation forced him to create fraudulent education certificates for children under the age of 15 in order to allow them to work for the organisation. He also says he was coerced into putting five individuals under house arrest on five separate occasions. These people were not permitted to leave until the organisation had obtained, through coercion, the statements it wanted.
Aaron also claims knowledge of two instances where followers in the United States confessed to murder but this information was not passed on to police. He also says while in the United States he was ordered by superiors to remove documents that would link a Scientology staff member to murder. Aaron says he and other members opened the files of several celebrity Scientologists in order to glean information which could be used as leverage to force a greater commit- ment to the organisation. Some might call that blackmail. In his statement he also details attempts which were made to coerce one celebrity Scientologist into having an abortion. He says the young man who impregnated the celebrity was forced from the organisation and cut off from his parents, who remained Scientologists.
Aaron said he was so heavily under the control of the organisation’s bizarre power structure he was complicit in ordering the beating of one follower and facilitated the beating of another. He says he was ordered to help a Scientologist who was hiding from authorities and admits to ordering the throwing overboard of a man from the Scientology ship the Freewinds. He is not sure if this order was ever carried out.
Aaron has now left the organisation and is willing to cooperate with police investigations into these matters. He was born into the cult, and he says he regrets the control it had over him and the things he did as a result. I ask my fellow senators: do these things sound like religious activities to you? Does this sound like an organisation that should be receiving support from the Australian taxpayer in the form of tax exemptions because they claim to be a religion?
I have also received correspondence from Carmel Underwood, another former member and another victim of Scientology. She says that while she was working for the organisation in Sydney she fell pregnant and was put under extreme pressure to have an abortion. When she refused, she was put on a disappearing program. Carmel also worked for the organisation’s financial planning arm and says that when requests for payments for abortions were made by the organisation’s executives they were never questioned, even though all other requests for funds were met with delays and haggled over. Carmel says she also witnessed a young girl who had been molested by her father being coached as to what she should say to investigating authorities in order to keep the crimes secret. Carmel says she was physically assaulted by a representative of the organisation during an argument.
And when she finally left the organisation, she says, information she divulged during so-called auditing was used by members to discredit her. Carmel says she chose to speak out because she knows there are many more victims of Scientology, many of whom are still caught up in the organisation and are being physically, financially and mentally abused. Carmel’s husband, Tim, supports his wife’s story and says the couple suffered serious financial hardship because of their involvement in the organisation. He says they were forced to pay more than $100,000 to publicise the organisation and for so-called religious texts and courses. It is incredible to think that the Christian Bible is free in every hotel room in the country, but Scientology texts and courses can cost followers their life savings and even fortunes they do not have and feel compelled to borrow.
One of the saddest correspondences I have received—and they are all sad—is from Paul Schofield. He also alleges the cover-up of child abuse by the organisation and admits being part of a campaign to cover up the facts surrounding the deaths of two of his daughters. Paul says his first daughter, Lauren, who was 14 months old, was being babysat at the organisation’s building in Sydney when she was allowed to wander the stairs by herself and fall. She died in hospital two days later. Paul says he felt pressured by Scientology executives not to request a coronial inquiry—pressure he ultimately gave in to. He was also told if he sought compensation from Scientology he and his wife would be ineligible for any other services.
His second daughter, Kirsty, who was 2½, died after ingesting potassium chloride—a substance used as part of a so-called purification program run by the organisation. Under the direction of Scientology executives, Paul says he perjured himself to the police, and during the coronial inquest, in order to protect the organisation. Under incredible pressure he agreed to lie because he was scared he would be heavily punished by Scientology if he told the truth. It is a decision he regrets to this day.
I have received statements from Anna and Dean Detheridge who claim to have been subjected to physical and mental abuse during their time with the organisation. Anna says she was instructed by the organisation to disconnect from her sister because her sister was gay and therefore, according to Scientology, dangerous, perverted and evil. Anna and Dean also provided evidence where information they and others have revealed to the church have been used to blackmail and control. They also provided more information about coerced abortions.
Kevin Mackey wrote to me detailing his 26 years of abuse in the organisation. In his letter, which I have tabled, he says:
When one begins Scientology there is nothing weird or space alien about it ... in fact Scientology as seen by a newbie is a Godsend to a troubled soul.
But he goes on to say: Once you have taken the bait and become hooked, the real Scientology is presented, very slowly, over years. This psychological conditioning Kevin is talking about eventually saw him and his wife hand over almost a million dollars to the organisation in exchange for services and products.
Other families have contacted me expressing grave concerns about their children who are still under the control of this organisation. But they have asked that I do not identify them for fear of never hearing from their children again. Another victim of Scientology, Peta O’Brien, wrote of being discouraged by the organisation from seeking treatment for cancer. She has also provided evidence of being assaulted and cut off from her son while they were both part of the organisation.
These allegations are serious, and many names have been removed from the letters I have tabled in the Senate tonight, but those names have not been removed from copies I am providing to the police. This organisation must be investigated. These victims of Scientology have spoken out at considerable personal risk, and I commend them for that. And I would encourage other victims of Scientology to come forward, contact the police or contact my office—but, most importantly, speak out.
I also believe the activities of this organisation should be scrutinised by parliament because Australian taxpayers are, in effect, supporting Scientology through its tax-exempt status. I say to all Australians: as you fill in your tax return next July or August, ask yourself how you feel knowing that you are paying tax and yet this criminal organisation is not. Do you want Australian tax exemptions to be supporting an organisation that coerces its followers into having abortions? Do you want to be supporting an organisation that defrauds, that blackmails, that falsely imprisons?— because, on the balance of evidence provided by victims of Scientology, you probably are.
Do we really want to be funding an organisation that turns supporters into victims in its pursuit of power and wealth? That is why I am calling for a Senate inquiry into this organisation and its tax-exempt status. In the past Scientology has claimed that those who question their organisation are attacking the group’s religious freedom. It is twisted logic, to say the least. Religious freedom did not mean the Catholic or Anglican Churches were not held accountable for crimes and abuses committed by their priests, nuns and officials—albeit belatedly. Ultimately, this is not about religious freedom.
In Australia there are no limits on what you can believe. But there are limits on how you can behave. It is called the law, and no-one is above it.

Even if study tech is not bad, you will forever be stuck in the high school, secondary school stage, where you are told what to learn, all the way to OT VIII, if you were in Scientology. In university, you are supposed to develop critical thinking skills, without explicitly written on the curricula. Knowledge is unlimited, and knowing is not the ultimate aim, but knowing what to know is, meaning having the ability to think critically.
This is inline with ancient Chinese philosophy：學海無崖......有崖隨無崖，殆已。
In science, mathematics, logic, theories and observations help to develop thinking skills. Post graduate studies will end up in Doctor of Philosophy - the school of thought. It's similar in arts, where you pick your supporting evidences to get to your conclusions. Also, many arts students take minor courses in philosophy and psychology, understanding how people think.
LRH is successful for training people not to think for themselves. All news released from the Church is true. And all negative news from major newspapers are lies. It just can't be true. If the anti-Scientology camp are that powerful in controlling all media, they are better off appointing politicians and presidents via public opinion. The Church of Scientology would have lost their tax exempt status and even being banned altogether.
Paul Haggis has deflected from the Church. He is a very famous screen writer and director, having won multiple Oscars, responsible for the most recent Jame Bones scripts. From his letter, it's obvious that if Scientologists just start thinking, Scientology or just the Church will collapse. He reasoned that even if a fraction of the church's reported abuse is true, it is not tolerable for him.
He asked if the CoS San Diego is openly supporting proposition 8, an anti-gay legislation. He received no reply. For a true Civil and Human Rights activists, he cannot be a part of it by remaining in Scientology.
He also spotted that Tommy Davis is lying on TV, when he said that disconnection do not exist. Paul's wife was disconnected from her father for trivial matters.
There is no surprise that Marty Rathbun, the chief of the new independence movement, reported that there are plenty of deflections left and right. The Church do not demand freeloader debts even if staff do not sign non-disclosure like agreements. Money are refunded when they are supposed to. Private investigates are called off from harassing deflectors. The Church is playing nice.
High level deflections make many Scientologists think. If OT VIII's deflect, your auditors deflect, previous second in command of Scientology deflects, previous chief spokesman deflects, movie stars deflect, Oscar winners deflect, what about you? I would like to add that if you are an upright citizen in society, it is an embarrassment to stay in the Church - think about it, can you?
The problem with the independents is, if the Church play nice enough, there is no reason to leave the Church. And Marty will become insignificant overnight. The Church may revert to it's old self anytime when nobody is looking.
Dear Paul, lying about disconnection is bad, but how about disconnection itlself? It is apparent that you do not agree with it. It wasn't started with David Miscavige, but our LRH.
Being a Scientologists, obviously he missed a lot of facts that others cannot escape if they are connected to the Internet.
Before day one of the worldwide, on the street protests, everybody agrees that we should not attack the religion itself, but to let everybody knows what is the CoS through the victims and the crimes committed. Protesters include one happy family of
- non-Scientolgists who think that Scientology is a scam
- ex-Scientolgists who think the same
- and ex-Scientologists who still believe in Scientology, but wanted to bring down the CoS so they will not again be prosecuted by it - the Free Zoners
Who thinks that Anonymous are here to save those who are firm believers of the church? Honestly it's a waste of time and very difficult if you are never a Scientologist. The first aim is to let the public know what is CoS to stop their expansion in the expense of the general public. Money making schemes like WISE, Narconon and Criminon are not working any more. If you believe the OT VIII's words, the church is desperate for donations because there are few new publics and Scientologists take fewer courses.
To make a Scientologist doubt about DM, the Church or LRH, it's just too difficult. It can be done because we know a lot more about Scientology than many high level Scientologists. For example, becoming a Clear means that you find out that you made up your past lifes, and OT VIII means that you find out that everything is made up, or something like that. But to talk to and convince a Scientologist means that you have to use their language, and their alien philosophy - in words of a Scientologist, their level of reality. It can be done but I doubt if one can carry on tediously for like two years. The effect will be minimal because you may be able to save a Scientologist or two. It's much more effective to turn up at the Orgs every month, every week, so the public and staff start to doubt what Anonymous are doing with so much conviction, so OT, and why the Orgs fail to confront and shatter suppression any more.
I welcome Rathbun's Independents, probably more ambitious that the Free Zoners. This is exactly what we are hoping for, someone to bring down CoS from the inside. Old critics are waiting for Rathbun and Rinder to speak out for years. This high profile challenge is good. If they don't believe in Scientology, it's better but perhaps less effective in bringing down CoS from the inside. We have enough OT's on the outside who thinks that Scientology is crap.
Do I worry about Rathbun? Not at all. Without professional writers, what they say and what they write are laughable, at least to the non-Scientologists. Rathbun is using LRH to attack DM, and of course DM will use LRH to counter attack if he can. For the first time, Scientologists have to "think", who is using LRH right, and who is telling the "truth" even at their level of reality. They cannot believer whatever the Church tell them to. Why would they believe in Rathbun? They have no choice but to doubt, even for LRH's words as used by both camps.
If Rathbun thinks that Anonymous is weak, that's a big mistake. The protesters numbers are down just because we have already set many records, and that we have already achieved many things that we set out to do. Imagine that Moxon has to run around the country to deal with AGP in LA, AO in Riverside, and now trying to get a single Anonymous in Las Vegas using make up charges. Not to mention that there are big lawsuits by BFG and some smaller ones. If Rathbun is successful it's because of Anonymous. If he spoke out two years ago it will be a ripple in the pond.
At most Rathbun will inherit what DM has now, and I'm sure he doesn't want the huge headache. The best scenerio will be that Scientologists split into two equal camps, constantly fighting each other.
Most Anonymous or not so Anonymous are more convinced than two years ago that the problem is with LRH. Any writers, academics, critical thinkers or scam artists can tell you that it's too easy to make up a theory, and the more you build on it the more it's believable. The only problem is whether the theory will stand up to review and criticism. LRH's only success is avoiding and eliminating criticism. It's a shame that he didn't live to deal with the arrival of the Internet. Or that he finds that life in a galaxy away is much more enjoyable without Anonymous?
He is making the biggest wave so far, because any Scientologist who do not like the way the church is being run will want to sacrifice Miscavige as the scape goat. He is getting support from all the Scientologists still in the church, who still believe in LR Hubbard's Scientology, but not the way the Church is run.
This picture will send a shiver to Miscavige, his top SP's who still believe in Scientology, including Rathbun himself, Mike Rinder, OT VIII. Rathbun urges Scientologists to declare independence from the Church, called his inner circle the "Untouchables", and flew around the country to "protect" people threaten by OSA's. More of their "friends" are listed here.
I don't see how the Church can get rid of Miscavige, unless he is convicted of crimes or he fled himself. So it's more likely that the Church is dismantled in it's current structure, and Rathbun appear as the top guy in the new organization.
I don't think Rathbun's only agenda is to reform the church, or to revenge, otherwise he could have spoken out in 2004 when he left, or at the height of the Anonymous worldwide protests last year, just like many other critics. His perfect timing shows that he wants the Church for himself. Though it will be a very different Church.
I doubt if they will keep the word "Church". For the moment, they are calling themselves Taiwan Independents, if they are in Taiwan for example. But this will risk losing their tax exemption status. This will not matter a lot since there will not be a lot of money involved. His pals are considering open source LRH tech. This is inevitable since almost all LRH materials are available on Wikileaks now.
I think Rathbun wants something more than the current Free Zone, otherwise he will consider himself another Free Zoner. You need to keep some big centralized organizations to charge big money for advance services.
I will applaud Rathbun and watch him doing his work to get rid of Miscavige, dismantling the Church along the way. I have no problem with people still believing in Scientology, and they should have no problem for me continue to criticize LRH when and where I want. The Fair Game policy wasn't written by Miscavige, and many heros and heroines went down well before Miscavige's time.
It will be silly for Rathbun to keep something like OSA, other than something like voluntary police, only being called to service when there are emergencies when the real police cannot deal with it fast enough. The front groups and PR machine should be eliminated, concentrating on delivering services instead. Otherwise, the old critics will be still there doing the same jobs since the birth of Scientology. As for "Anonymous", those currently at it are not going to go away. Without a name they cannot be brought off or scared off. And they will not reveal themselves until OSA is completely gone. Many more old Anonymous will be back for the fight given enough rest for a year or two, or when they finish college, get a job, start a family, when their kids grow up, or retire.
I'm sure Rathbun will get a lot of the glory, but who cares? He has enough blood on his hands so he may not be around to be No. 1 for long. I think he knows enough LRH's and Miscavige's dark secrets that Miscavige cannot bring him down without bringing down himself.
Without Anonymous, Rathbun will be silenced just like anybody else before him. His perfect timing of speaking out is acknowledging the work of Anonymous. At the time, large and small media are willing to speak against or joke about Scientology without fear. The top Scientology lawyer Moxon looks like a moron. Before Anonymous you may be jailed in Riverside County, where the Church's worldwide headquarter is, for making jokes about Scientology. Now the pro-Scientology county supervisor is being bombarded on live TV at many county meetings, resorting to leaving his seat when critics speak. Celebrities and politicians would not have anything to do with Scientology (not totally true but soon and for the rest of the time track).
Notice that the latest OT VIII's said they started to look critically at the Church for a year or two, meaning that Anonymous did successfully put Scientology on the spotlight, and caused all the bad PR's.
As for who triggered Anonymous, it remains a mystery. But certainly for once I believe that the Church pulled it in. The mass response to the Church's tactics is totally natural. At this age who will want to suppress a video for a laugh? The Church is inviting people to publish their secret scriptures in response. If people can't do anything on the Internet, they will go on the streets to get back at them. If scary people take your pictures during protests in a free country, you will fight until they are completely dismantled.
As for the old guards, the old critics, they will not be forgotten. They provided the ammunition, Anonymous just fire or throw at the Church whatever they can get on their hands. Many old guards are purely inspirational. Armstrong, LRH's bibliographer who knew too much, was being fair gamed to nothing. At his age he still goes to protests regularly. Cooper, who still read the boards and give out signed copies of her old book. Graham, who was being fair gamed to less than nothing - the Church wouldn't let his bankruptcy to get through. Any money he gets the Church still has claim on it. Ida who lost his son for 30 years, approaching 90 and still go to protests on occasions, and welcomes protesters and critics to her home close to Miscaviage's.
And of course the fallen - who can forget Lisa McPherson, proving Scientology is not THE solution. And Lawnsdale, who was being fair gamed to death. He is out of work, but the Church post his minor crime history on every shop in Clearwater, to make sure that he remains that way. He changed from a highly active critic with too much time on his hand, to taking his own life apparently.
Who wants a Church like that?
